How to Make a Birthday Greeting Video in 1 Minute
A short birthday video feels more personal than a text message, and it doesn't have to take long. With a free moving background, a name and a few words, you can make one in about a minute.
What you need
- A phone or computer with CapCut, Canva, or any video editor.
- A moving background. Balloons, confetti or warm bokeh lights work well. Pick one from the list at the end of this page.
- The person's name, and one or two short lines.
The 1-minute method
- Pick your background. Rising balloons feel playful, gold bokeh feels elegant, and confetti feels like a party. Download it free; there's no sign-up.
- Start a project in your editor and add the background as the first layer. For TikTok, Reels or WhatsApp Status, set the project to 9:16 and zoom the clip to fill the screen.
- Add the name in big letters. For example: Happy 7th Birthday, Mia! A rounded or script font looks friendly. Make it large and place it in the upper half.
- Add a short message underneath in a smaller, simple font: Wishing you a year full of laughter. Love, Tita Grace.
- Make the text easy to read. Use white or cream text with a soft shadow, or a light outline. Avoid thin fonts on busy backgrounds.
- Add a gentle animation to the text, such as "fade in" or "pop", so it appears after half a second.
- Set the length to 8 to 15 seconds. All our clips loop, so if you need it longer, copy the background and paste it end to end. You won't see the join.
- Export at 1080p and send it.
Make it extra special
- Add a photo. Place a photo of the birthday person in a rounded frame in the middle, with the name above it.
- Add confetti on top. Lay a confetti green screen over the whole video for a burst of celebration. See how to use a green screen in CapCut.
- Record a short voice message. Most editors let you record straight into the project. Even "Happy birthday, we love you!" makes it personal.
- Count the age. A big number like "7" or "50" that appears first, then the name, is a fun reveal.
Wording ideas
- Happy birthday, Lolo! Thank you for every story and every hug.
- Happy 18th, Sam! The world is yours.
- To the best teacher: happy birthday, Ms. Lopez!
- Happy birthday from all of us at the office!
A note about music
Music makes a greeting feel complete, but not every song is free to use. If you'll post the video publicly, use the music library inside TikTok, Instagram or CapCut, or a track marked as free to use. For a private message to family, any song you like is usually fine.
